The vehicle lifts that we carry are strong and work seamlessly to lift your wheelchair or mobility scooter safely into the back of your car or into your transport van. With a mechanical platform, they raise or lower the individual while seated in a wheelchair. Several styles are available to choose from, depending on personal preference.
Since there are many types of vehicle lifts, it’s important to understand how they work to decide which one is for you. The choice usually depends on the type of vehicle you will be using. If you use a rear cargo door or the side passenger door for the lift, you need to determine that the lift will operate in either location. After selecting the entry point for the lift, take the total weight into consideration. This should be the weight of the patient as well as the chair or scooter. Vehicle lifts come in a choice of single or double sliding arms. The single arm models have one lift that’s in a fixed position or it has one that’s fixed and a second one that slides. With the single arm lift, the weight capacity can’t exceed 600 pounds. In terms of space, there is more flexibility with the single arm lift. The dual arm lift is more stable and better for heavier loads. With dual arms, they have a lifting capacity of up to 800 pounds. Since dual arm lifts take up more space, they’re best used from the back entrance of a van. Lifts can be mounted internally or under the vehicle. While the lifts with internal mounting are less expensive, the under-vehicle units take up no interior space and have a higher weight capacity.
